Complete Step-by-Step Bagua Training Program

by Chenhan Yang, Liang, Shou-Yu, Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming

Introducing “The Complete Step-by-Step Bagua Zhang Training System

If you haven’t heard of Bagua Zhang, it is another internal or ‘soft’ style of martial arts akin to Tai Chi. It is known for its elusive circular stepping footwork and devastating palm strikes. It is also highly regarded for its time-honored ways to increase flexibility and its potent means of Qi cultivation.

Bagua Zhang is one of the top three internal styles alongside Tai Chi and Xingyi.

Where Tai Chi is based on Yin and Yang, Bagua takes it a step further. Bagua means ‘8 trigrams’. The trigrams are three combinations of Yin and Yang, like triple Yin, triple Yang, and the six other variations of double Yin and single Yang or double Yang and single Yin. That comes to eight possible trigrams and these trigrams shape how Bagua is expressed.

Zhang means ‘palm’ denoting the softness of the method. Most Chinese styles use the suffix ‘quan’ which means ‘fist’. In the formal name of Tai Chi Chuan, the ‘chuan’ is also spelled ‘quan.’ Through yielding, you can gain the advantage. Bagua shares Tai Chi’s emphasis on internal power. And just like with Tai Chi, Bagua Zhang is also commonly shortened to Bagua.

Bagua can be learned at any age. It can stand alone as its own singular practice or compliment another system.

Learn Bagua through YMAA’s Complete Step-by-Step Bagua Zhang Training System!

YMAA Publication Center has brought together three of the world’s leading masters to create this multi-modal Complete Step-by-Step Bagua Zhang Training System directly to you. Master Liang, Shou-Yu, Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming, and Master Chenhan Yang are renowned experts in the field and have collaborated to bring the influential style of Bagua into the privacy of your own home.

Through complimentary books and videos, these three masters reveal to you the secrets of Bagua for you to study and learn. It's like having the masters come straight to your home to teach you privately.

If you have been curious about what mysteries Bagua might hold for you, this is the opportunity of a lifetime.

Following The Way

The concepts of Yin, Yang, Tai Chi and Bagua come from the philosophy of Daoism. Dao literally means ‘the way.’ Bagua is part of a larger belief system encapsulated in one of China’s cultural classics, the Yi Jing (Book of Changes). The Yi Jing pairs the 8 trigrams of Bagua with each other to create 64 combinations. These combinations are believed to describe the circular rhythms of time, and consequently are used to predict potential futures.

But don’t let that overwhelm you. The Yi Jing is a complete study of its own. Nevertheless, it is fulfilling to familiarize yourself with the basics of Daoism to deepen your understanding of Bagua, Tai Chi and Qigong.

Accordingly, the Complete Step-by-Step Bagua Zhang Training System is offering you Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming’s insightful book, The Dao De Jing: A Qigong Interpretation, absolutely free!

We want you to have access to the philosophic underpinnings of Bagua so that your understanding of the art is more profound. The more that you learn, the more you will appreciate the genius and wisdom woven into these internal arts. And you’ll get so much more benefit. Your practice will become even more enriched and profound.

Baguazhang—Emei Baguazhang DVD by Grandmaster Liang, Shou-Yu and Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming

Grandmaster Liang began his training in Kung Fu at the age of 6, and was taught the esoteric skills of the Emei Mountain sect, including Baguazhang.

Baguazhang (8 Trigrams Palm) is famous both as an ancient internal martial art and for improving health. It develops upper body flexibility, leg strength, and lightning-quick hands and feet.

Baguazhang training generates a strong flow of Qi energy to energize your muscles for increased strength. This Qi flow also nourishes your internal organs and improves health and vitality.

In addition, Bagua emphasizes circular movement, employs both defensive and offensive strategies, and trains at all three fighting ranges - short, middle, and long.

Course 1 contains basic training and body conditioning, teaches Bagua Qigong, and demonstrates the famous Eight Palms sequence with martial applications.

Course 2 instructs the intermediate level Bagua Swimming Body sequence, named after the swift and agile movements of a swimming dragon, with martial applications.

Course 3 presents the unique Bagua Deer Hook Sword, which is specially designed to disarm opponents. Learn hooking, seizing, controlling, and cutting techniques, and the complete sequence, with applications against the long sword.

The authors have put as much as possible into this DVD in order to offer a clear and comprehensive overview of the subject. Because Bagauzhang is such a vast art, this three-hour DVD consists mainly of demonstrations of each of the techniques, sequences, and applications so that the student may see the proper movement. The Dao De Jing: A Qigong Interpretation BOOK by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming

This book examines one of the world’s most enduring and influential literary works through the timeless art of qigong. In his words, Lao Tzu (or Laozi), author of the Dao De Jing, embodies qigong principles, advocating the cultivation of mind and body. Only when we know qigong can we know Lao Tzu—and only when we know Lao Tzu can we know the Dao De Jing.

Lao Tzu’s writing has been read, translated, and discussed around the globe. It deals with principles that transcend time and culture. That is why this ancient text has been reimagined countless times in books on business, relationships, and parenting—but never with a focus on the art of qigong. This makes the Dao De Jing: A Qigong Interpretation unique and indispensible.

Many chapters in the Dao De Jing purely talk about qigong, especially the practices of regulating the body, breathing, mind, qi, and spirit.

Dr. Yang, a renowned author, scholar, and martial artist, devoted decades to researching and writing this book. He interprets and analyzes the 81 chapters of the Dao De Jing. His commentary will bring new insight, inspiration, and depth to your understanding of Lao Tzu’s words—and to your qigong practice.

This book includes:

• The complete Dao De Jing in English and its original Chinese text
• Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming’s commentary and analysis of each chapter
• Numerous illustrations and diagrams

The Dao De Jing: A Qigong Interpretation is not a book of instruction. It is about the Way—the path before us, in qigong and in life, where what you achieve comes through your own understanding.
