All Formats

New books are published in print and ebook formats. File specific formats are developed for sellers like Apple and Amazon. Epub and Optimized PDFs are developed for open readers and tablets. Some books are even developed as enhanced ebooks that contain HD video and audio.

Response

We do our best to respond in a timely manner to large number of proposals and subsequent manuscript reviews. Your reasonable followup is always welcome regarding any submittal.

How To Submit Your Book Proposal

It's easy to send a book proposal to YMAA Publication Center. The proposed work should address some aspect of Oriental culture - martial arts, Qigong (Chi Kung), philosophy, medicine, etc. Self-defense books should clearly distinguish between between martial arts applications and self-defense. Works of Fiction must be grounded in some aspect of martial arts or Asian healing arts. Each proposal will be promptly reviewed. First Step: Non-Fiction

  1. Send a one page (maximum) cover letter. State your intention for writing the book, the proposed audience and specific reader benefits.
  2. Send a one page (maximum) description of the proposed book.
  3. Send the first 30 pages of your work or sufficient samples pages for us to understand the scope of your book.
  4. Send a one page (maximum) author biography. Relate salient experience and qualifications.
  5. Send details about your previously published works including titles, publication dates, and ISBNs.
  6. Send either an MSWord or PDF file of your proposal. Please do not embed your proposal within an email text box.Email to publisher at ymaa.com

Second Step: Non-Fiction

  1. Upon receipt of your proposal, book description, sample pages and biography, we shall review your request, and if appropriate, shall ask you to then send:
  2. Send the complete manuscript. Include sample photos or drawings, if available.
  3. Send a PDF or MSWord version of your complete manuscript. Include sample photos or drawings, if available. Email to Publisher at ymaa.com

  4. Send details about your previously published works including titles, publication dates, and ISBNs. If you have not been previously published, please inform us about the writing programs and contests you have participated in. Supply program names, scores, and award details.
  5. Send the first 30 pages of your work.
  6. Email all submitted material as either an MSWord or PDF file to Publisher at ymaa.com

Photos and Artwork

Guidelines for photographs

  • Jpeg or tiff are acceptable.
  • 300 dpi / RGB
  • Your color jpg should never be less than 250 KB

Guidelines for illustrations

  • Digital art is preferred. Jpg / Tif / EPS / PDF are acceptable.
  • Line art must be higher than 800 DPI at 100% size.
  • Hand drawings are acceptable if professionally prepared. Subject to inspection.
  • Text overlay should NOT be permanent. Subject to inspection.
  • Font for text overlays are selected to complement the font used for layout. Subject to inspection.

As a further guideline, we present our list of Publication Categories to help you determine if we are the right publisher for your work. A book proposal does not necessarily have to fall under one of these categories. In general, your proposal should have some connection to Oriental culture.
